A swimmer in Waterbury has died after being rescued unresponsive from the water at East Mountain Reservoir, authorities said.

Upon arrival, fire authorities said the swimmer, a 30-year-old male, was several hundred yards away from the parking area.

The Waterbury Fire Department said they deployed their boat and Aqua Eye, a specialized device, to locate the victim beneath the water.

The victim was removed from the water at 5:33 p.m. and transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he later died, officials said.

The Waterbury Police Department is working with the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as

part of the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing.
