Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said violence anywhere is unaccepted hours after a gunman opened fire Sunday at a church.
“My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community,” Whitmer wrote in a post on X.
An active shooter was reported at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4285 McCandlish Road, in Grand Blanc. Multiple victims were reported.
“I am grateful to the first responders who took action quickly,” Whitmer said. “We will continue to monitor this situation and hold the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Grand Blanc close.”
Police have confirmed the shooter is down and the church is on fire. Residents are asked to avoid the area.
Police are expected to release more details at a press conference, scheduled for 1 p.m.
