ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – New York Governor Kathy Hochul is warning the public against scams in connection to the state's inflation refund checks. Hochul says scammers are sending text messages, emails, voice messages, and direct mail to taxpayers in an attempt to spread false information about the refund checks. Hochul said eligible New Yorkers will receive their inflation refund checks without the need to apply, sign up, or provide personal information.
Hochul said the New York State Tax Department and the IRS will not call or text people with requests for any personal information.
