PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Self-driving rideshare service Waymo was forced to temporarily suspend service in the Valley on Friday as the region got pummeled with heavy rain, resulting in patches of flash flooding.
Waymo said on Sunday morning that the service has now resumed.
Some service appeared to have resumed on Friday night, although a notice on the app stated that demand was high and that riders should expect delays.
Social media posts have shown instances of the autonomous SUVs getting stuck in floodwaters, particularly in central Phoenix, where severe thunderstorms were reported. One image shared with Arizona’s Family showed a Waymo stuck because of standing water.
Company officials confirmed they’ve worked to get those cars off the road.
