MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - The Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department announced the line-of-duty passing of Deputy Chief Jimmy Townsend.

Central Berkeley Fire and EMS Assistant Chief of Public Information Colt Roy says Townsend died at 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Townsend spent more than three decades dedicated to fire service, after beginning his career with the Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department back in Nov. 1990.

“Throughout his career, he was a steadfast leader, mentor, and friend who stood as a cornerstone of the Berkeley County and South Carolina firefighting community,” Roy says. “His passing leaves a void that can never truly be filled.”

Memorial service arrangements have not yet been finalized.
