A man has died aboard a luxury yacht on Sydney Harbour.

Police and paramedics were called to a welfare check on a two-masted sailboat docked in a bay near Mosman on Sunday evening amid concerns for the man, who hadn’t returned home after boarding the vessel days earlier.

The body of the man, who police believe is aged in his 60s, was found on the boat.

Water police found the vessel with its sails furled and wrapped under a blue covering. Multiple ambulance crews, police cars, and a firetruck were stationed by Taronga Zoo Wharf.

Initial inquiries suggest the man was working on the vessel when he was overcome by fumes produced by the engine and other appliances burning fuel, leading investigators to believe the death was a misadventure.
