Chennai Police were put on high alert Sunday night after a bomb threat was reported at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s residence in Neelankarai. Authorities said a caller claimed that explosives had been planted at the house.

A bomb squad was immediately deployed, but no explosives were found during the search. Security at the actor’s home has been tightened.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the stampede at Vijay’s rally in Karur has climbed to 40, including 16 women and 10 children.

Officials said 95 people were injured, with 51 admitted to the ICU. The toll is expected to rise further.
