WATERVLIET TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Speed was considered a factor in a crash near Watervliet that trapped a driver inside a vehicle, according to deputies.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, a crash happened on Dwight Boyer Road near M-140 in Watervliet Township, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office. Dispatch received reports of an unconscious driver and entrapment.

Arriving deputies and other first responders had to extract the driver from the vehicle. That driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, deputies said.

Three other people involved had minor injuries and were released at the scene. Deputies say speed was a contributing factor of the crash.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
