MADISON COUNTY, Ill. - The Edwardsville School Board has suspended superintendent Patrick Shelton with pay pending an investigation, following a unanimous vote on Thursday.

According to our partners at the Post Dispatch, Shelton, who has been leading the district since July 2021, will be temporarily replaced by Assistant Superintendent Allen Duncan as acting superintendent.

The district's spokesperson declined to comment on the reason for Shelton's suspension.

The suspension of Superintendent Shelton adds to a growing trend of administrative changes in the St. Louis area school districts this year as Edwardsville is the third district in the St. Louis area this year to suspend or fire its top administrator.
