Hillshire Brands Company of Haltom City, Texas, has recalled 58,000,000 pounds of corn dogs and sausage on a stick products because they may be contaminated with pieces of wood embedded in the batter.
The products were packaged between March 17 and Sept. 25 of this year, according to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The corn dogs and sausage on a stick were sold online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide. They also were sold to school districts (not part of the National School Lunch Program) and Department of Defense facilities.
The FSIS said the problem was discovered after multiple consumer complaints, including five people who were injured.
