An elderly man and woman died in York County last week, days after they were injured in separate car crashes, the coroner’s office said Monday.
Judith Appleby, 81, died Sept. 19, and Thomas Downey, 80, died the next day, according to Coroner Pam Gay. They were hospitalized and receiving treatment for crash-related injuries when they died, Gay said in a news release.
Appleby, of Chambersburg, was driving Sept. 12 near Lincoln Way East and Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg when she ended up in oncoming traffic around 10:30 a.m., where another vehicle hit hers before she crashed into a utility pole.
Appleby died from blunt force trauma to the head, and her death was ruled an accident, Gay said.
Downey, a Glen Rock resident, crashed into a 4-foot by 2.5-foot rock around 7:30 a.m. Sept. 1
