Edinburgh police swooped on a city centre kirkyard on Monday afternoon.

Officers were seen at The Parish Church of St Cuthbert from around 3.50pm on September 29, with the Scottish Ambulance Service also in attendance.

The exact nature of the incident is currently not known. However, images from the scene show the graveyard surrounding the church taped off and officers on the scene.

Edinburgh Live understands that a concerned passerby spotted officers with blue gloves and clear bags collecting evidence.

They said: "I was just walking up to Lothian Road and spotted blue tape. There were several officers there too. No clue what's going on but it looks like they are looking through some evidence in the graveyard.
