FALL RIVER, Mass. —
Fire inspectors found sprinkler heads that had been recalled 24 years ago in four buildings in Fall River, Massachusetts, the city’s fire chief said Monday.
The recalled sprinklers were discovered in use at a group home, two boarding houses and one shelter, and have since been replaced, the fire department said.
The revelation follows 5 Investigates’ reporting that the sprinkler system in Gabriel House assisted living home contained sprinklers that had also been recalled and never replaced, and that the sprinkler in the room where the fire originated never released water into the room.
The July 13 fire was one of the deadliest in recent Massachusetts history, killing 10 residents.
