The world's tallest bridge opened to traffic over the weekend in China.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge soars nearly 2,050 feet above the Beipan River in the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou, about 685 miles northwest of Hong Kong.

It snatched the previous record from another bridge in the same province: The Beipanjiang Bridge, which reaches over the same river.

The new tallest option spans 4,659 feet – or .088 miles – according to the BBC and state-run Chinese network CGTN . Multiple state outlets reported that the structure caps "an engineering feat three years in the making." See video of the bridge at the top of this story.

According to the BBC, local officials reported it cuts driving time between the river canyon's two sides from two hours to two minutes.
