Cameron Latu left Alabama for the NFL as a tight end. But he began his time with the Crimson Tide as a linebacker. And in his first game as a member of an NFL team’s 53-man roster on Sunday, Latu looked more like a linebacker than a tight end.

After Latu made his first two NFL appearances in Philadelphia’s previous two games as a practice-squad elevation, the Eagles signed him to their 53-player active roster on Wednesday.

On Sunday, with Riley Dixon punting on fourth-and-5 at the Tampa Bay 48-yard line to end the Buccaneers’ opening possession, Latu pushed up the middle to block the punt.

Philadelphia safety Sydney Brown grabbed the bouncing football and ran 35 yards for a touchdown with 12:51 left in the first quarter.

In his first two games, Latu had been in for 31 special-team
