September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which commemorates the history and legacy of residential schools in Manitoba and acknowledges the harm caused to Indigenous people, including intergenerational trauma.
The day has also been commonly referred to as Orange Shirt Day, in memory of Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken away when she arrived at a residential school in 1973.
The Free Press is not publishing a print or e-edition on Sept. 30, but readers can visit our website for the latest news and information.
