Eligible people on Universal Credit could be entitled to an extra £5,000 a year thanks to a little known payment for people judged unable to work because of a long-term illness or disability.

The Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) payment is worth £416 a month - meaning people on the benefit struggling with health problems could get a financial lifeline.

Once granted, it often means claimants no longer have to attend Jobcentre appointments or prove they are searching for work. In many cases, reassessments are rare, with people left undisturbed for years, the Express reports .
