PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- A metal fire in North Peoria caused roughly $30,000 in damage.
Crews with the Peoria Fire Department were called at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, to a report of a fire at a commercial building, said Battalion Chief Steven Rada.
When they arrived, firefighters found metal on fire, and the hazardous materials coordinator was called to assist, he said.
"The fire was deemed to be a metal fire, which is obviously a little more hazardous to the everyday firefighter, since it is a metal fire; we can't put water on it, and things of that nature, so we did call our hazardous material coordinator," he said.
They had to use different "Class D" extinguishers, which are used to smother the flames, he said.
