JEFF DAVIS, La. (KPLC) - When a hurricane hits, officials need to be on the ground and ready to go as soon as possible. So, a hurricane shelter is on its way to Jeff Davis Parish to help quicken recovery time.

Parish administrator Ben Boudreaux unveiled plans to build a hurricane-safe room.

“The police jury got a grant to build a safe room, and this is a building that’s going to be around 2,700 square feet. It’ll be rated for around 200 miles an hour, and it’ll be used to house emergency personnel, such as first responders and law enforcement, to be on the ground after a storm,” Boudreaux said.

Boudreaux says this project is at no cost to residents.

“Just under $3 million, and it’s going to be fully funded by federal funds. So, it’ll be no cost to local citizens,” Boudreaux said.
