U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a peace agreement for Gaza is "very, very close" following discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington. The White House has unveiled a 20-point peace plan aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict.

This plan would allow Palestinians to either remain in Gaza or return to the territory. However, its implementation hinges on the agreement of Hamas, although the plan states it could be partially enacted even if Hamas does not consent.

Key components of the proposal include the release of Israeli hostages currently held in Gaza, the release of hundreds of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons, and the return of over 1,000 Gazans who have been imprisoned since the onset of the conflict.

Additionally, the plan calls for the Israeli military to withdraw from Gaza and for a significant increase in humanitarian aid to the region. To oversee governance in Gaza, a temporary "apolitical Palestinian committee" would be established, supervised by a "Board of Peace" led by Trump. Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is also expected to be a member of this board.

In a related development, Netanyahu expressed regret to Qatar's prime minister for an Israeli airstrike that occurred in Doha. This apology was made during a three-way phone call with Trump, according to the White House.

The situation remains fluid as the peace plan awaits further developments and reactions from the involved parties.
