COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine announced the launch of a new driver safety app for young people who are trying to get their license.
The launch of the new app, RoadReady Ohio , comes as a new law goes into effect that will require those between 18 and 20 years old to be held to the same training standards 16 and 17-year-olds who are working to get their driver’s license.
The governor previously said 58% of fatal crashes last year included 18 and 19-year-olds.
Earlier this year, as part of the state’s two-year budget, DeWine approved updates to Ohio’s driver’s education law.
Previously, drivers aged 18 and up could opt out of full training requirements or take a shortened course. Under the new law, which goes into effect Sept. 30, anyone 21 and under must now complete a full driver
