SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash - The City of Spokane Valley could be home to a brand-new ice rink, paid for by an unnamed benefactor.

The city was approached by the benefactor earlier this year with plans for a $44 million ice rink adjacent to Sullivan Park.

The dual-sheet facility could be used for youth hockey, figure skating and other ice-related events.

The benefactor is working with the Innovia Foundation to lead the project.

According to city council documents, Innovia wants a 99-year lease on 11 acres of the property. It would include the facility and a hotel and commercial building that would offset operations and maintenance costs.

With a built-out purchase option, the city could buy the facility for $9.4 million.

Innovia's plan aligns with the city's goals of increasing tourism.
