A "jealous" father blinded his son and inflicted a "catastrophic" brain injury on the newborn after violently shaking him when his partner went out for an evening with friends. Mehmet Tufan initially feigned innocence as medical professionals battled to save his child's life, claiming that the infant had become unresponsive due to a hair lodged in his throat.

However, he later admitted to shaking little Leo Williams "with considerable force", resulting in a host of severe disabilities. Tragically, Leo succumbed to his injuries at the tender age of four, with his father seen weeping in the dock as he was sentenced for killing his own son more than seven years after the distressing incident.
