BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — Brazos County Judge Duane Peters has announced he will not run for reelection.

Peters made the announcement on Monday, Sept. 29.

Peters was sidelined in June due to health issues , appointing former Texas State Representative Kyle Kacal to serve as interim County Judge in his place as he recovered.

Peters said he will not return to the office yet to serve out the remainder of his term, but intends to.

“Bettie and I are grateful for all of your prayers and well-wishes," Peters said in a statement. "It’s not quite time for me to return to the office yet, but I’m working toward that goal each day.
