MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins announced Monday afternoon that Rocco Baldelli is out as manager after a lackluster year and turmoil in ownership.
This season, the Twins had a 70-92 record, which was the second-worst mark in the American League.
Baldelli, 44, who had completed his seventh season as the club's manager, has the third-most managerial victories in Twins history with 526, behind only Tom Kelly (1,140) and Ron Gardenhire (1,068).
"After ongoing internal discussions, we believe this is the right time for a change in leadership of our Major League team. These decisions are never easy, particularly given the respect we have for Rocco," said club Executive Chair Joe Pohlad in the new release.
