CANTON, New York (WWNY) - With Canton Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley not seeking reelection, Republican Sherri Snyder and Democrat Jim Smith are vying for votes.

Smith launched his candidacy last week. He’s a former county legislator, current town council member, and has previously served as Canton Town Supervisor for 8 years. He says he knows the town’s business.

“I was involved in writing the solar law, which has been a very big thing over the last 3 or 4 years, and we still have negotiations to do with the large solar facility that’s coming, EDF,” said Smith.

Snyder’s campaign started in March. She has served as the Potsdam Town Court Clerk for over 15 years and also works as a real estate broker, believing that both jobs make her the best candidate.
