HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings man whose son was found dead in his car this summer has pleaded not guilty to a child abuse charge.

Jeremy Hansen, 36, is charged with negligent child abuse resulting in death. On Monday, Hansen’s attorney turned in a written plea of not guilty in Adams County District Court.

Police arrested Hansen July 28 after his son was found dead in a car in a parking lot in southeast Hastings. A preliminary investigation showed the 5-month-old died of extreme heat exposure.

As of Monday afternoon, no trial or future hearing dates were scheduled in Hansen’s case.
