Two men avoided serious injury in an early Monday morning collision between a cyclist and a Jeep Compass in Downtown Edmonton.

Police were called just before 5 a.m. Monday to the scene of a collision at the intersection of 111 Avenue and 101 Street, the Edmonton Police Service said in a Monday news release.

Police said a bicycle travelling south on 101 Street went through a red light and was struck by Jeep Compass travelling west driven by a 36-year-old man.

A 38-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

Police closed lanes going west on 111 Avenue between 101 Street and 102 Street for several hours.

EPS is still investigating.
