A decorative crosswalk is being restored as part of the City of Edmonton’s observation of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, with the country reflecting on the legacy of Canada’s residential schools.

Tuesday is a national holiday for federal workers and it will also affect some Edmonton municipal services.

“In March 2023, Edmonton city council affirmed the city’s commitment to reconciliation by making Sept. 30 a day of observance for staff to participate in education, reflection, remembrance and community connection,” city communications adviser Carmen Wiggins said in a news release.
