NEW YORK (PIX11) -- If you own a car in New York City, you've probably faced the frustration of driving around blocks in search of a parking spot.

Parking becomes more challenging when drivers must follow signs indicating when Alternate Side Parking is in effect, which prohibits parking at specific times to allow street cleaning.

Those found violating the rules may be ticketed, even if a street sweeper has already passed.

Here is a list of dates when ASP will be suspended this month: • Thursday, Oct. 2: Yom Kippur • Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 7-8: Succoth • Monday, Oct. 13: Columbus Day • Tuesday, Oct. 14: Shemini Atzereth • Wednesday, Oct. 15: Simchas Torah • Monday, Oct. 20: Diwali
