Two homes were damaged in a fire Saturday evening in Mexico, Missouri, according to a news release from the Mexico Public Safety Department.

The Public Safety Department responded to a structure fire at 9:51 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Union Street, according to the news release.

The first crews on scene found flames coming from the front of the house and a tree burning, according to the release.

The release said the the fire destroyed the front deck and moved to the partially finished attic before firefighters arrived.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished but left significant damage to the house, according to the release.

The neighboring home suffered moderate heat damage, according to the news release.
