SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Former banker Russell Laffitte has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, officials announced Monday.

Former CEO at Palmetto State Bank, Laffitte pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud and three counts of misapplication of bank funds.

Laffitte was a co-conspirator to Alex Murdaugh, the Lowcountry attorney who was found guilty in the deaths of his wife and son, a Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson said.

The 54-year-old also reportedly admitted to agreeing to serve as a conservator and personal representative for several of Murdaugh's clients, knowing he would personally profit from doing so.
