CHARLESTON, S.C. — Former Palmetto State Bank executive Russell Laffitte has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a scheme with disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh that defrauded multiple clients of their settlement funds.
Laffitte, 54, of Estill, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, wire fraud, bank fraud, and three counts of misapplication of bank funds.
U.S. District Judge Richard M. Gergel also ordered him to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term, pay a $20,000 fine, and forfeit more than $85,000 to the government.
“As of today, Russell Laffitte and Alex Murdaugh have both been sentenced to federal prison, and their victims have been made financially whole,” said U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling. “The victims put their trust in Laffitte an
