Birth certificates issued in the Hoosier State for the foreseeable future only will list a person's biological sex at birth and will not be revised to match the person's gender identity — even if the person secures a court order authorizing the change.
Last week, U.S. District Judge Matthew Brookman rejected a request for a preliminary injunction seeking to halt enforcement of Republican Gov. Mike Braun's March 4 executive order eschewing "modern gender ideology" and establishing male and female as immutable classifications for all state government purposes.
Brookman determined the governor's directive does not discriminate on the basis of sex because it applies to everyone across the board. He also found Indiana was within its rights to choose to record sex, and not gender
