A federal court has denied a request that would temporarily allow Indiana residents to use their gender identity on birth certificates instead of their biological sex.

Attorney General Todd Rokita called the ruling a win for Indiana’s policy passed by Gov. Mike Braun’s executive order in March. It is similar to one President Donald Trump signed on his first day in office.

Braun’s order is for “respecting the biological dichotomy between men and women as a fundamental and deeply rooted legal principle embedded in Indiana law.” It defines sex, gender, woman, man, girl, boy, female, male, citizen, individual and person.
