COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — Five children were hospitalized with minor injuries after a car crashed into the playground of a Coventry daycare on Monday afternoon, according to Central Coventry Fire District Chief Kevin Cady.
Firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into a building around 4:30 p.m.
Chief Cady said there were between 12 to 15 kids in the playground when the car drove through the fence.
Four children were taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and one child was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
Officials said the five children had non-life-threatening injuries, such as scrapes and bruises.
The driver of the car was not injured and did not appear to be impaired, according to Chief Cady.
A portion of Tiogue Avenue was closed off for accident reconstruction.
