EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — A former Coventry town councilor was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on Sept. 24, according to Rhode Island State Police.

57-year-old Robert Delellis, of Coventry, was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit a chemical test.

According to RISP, the defendant was arrested after police pulled over his vehicle on the New London Turnpike in East Greenwich around 12:30 a.m.

Delellis was arraigned and released with a notice to appear in court, according to RISP.

The Coventry town manager confirmed that Delellis has resigned from his position as Coventry town councilor.
