ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - A Quad-Cities public radio station is getting a community grant months after they found out they lost a big source of funding.

Quad Cities Community Foundation awarded $629,000 to 36 local nonprofits.

The $15,000 WVIK will receive comes at a crucial time after federal funding cuts, said Jared Johnson, the general manager of the Rock Island station.

“So that kind of support, for what we do in the community, and how important it is [and] encouraging in what could otherwise be a very difficult time,” Johnson said.

The House passed a bill July 17 to cut more than $1 billion to the Corporation of Public Broadcasting, which in turn subsidizes about 1,500 locally owned PBS and NPR stations across the country.
