Bouquets of flowers lay at the intersection of Cornell and Highland avenues in West View.
As cars passed the makeshift memorial Monday, a pink cowboy hat and a plaque — outlined with red and white flowers — signed by family and friends leaned against a utility pole.
Addalena "Addie" Maiette, a recent graduate of North Hills High School, died at the intersection late last week, the victim of a two-car crash along a road that several residents who live nearby said is in dire need of increased safety measures.
“There needs to be something put in place to make it safer for everybody,” said Kristina Taylor, Ms. Maiette’s former soccer coach, who said she drives on Highland every day to get to Highcliff Elementary, where she teaches second grade. “We just lost a life because of this.”
