DECATUR, Ala. - The Alabama Supreme Court is set to decide if former officer Mac Marquette will stand trial for murder in connection with the shooting death of Steve Perkins two years ago.

The incident occurred when a tow-truck driver attempted to repossess Perkins' pickup, leading to a confrontation where police say Perkins emerged with a gun. Prosecutors claim Marquette fired multiple shots, resulting in Perkins' death, while Marquette maintains he acted in self-defense because Perkins pointed a gun at him.

The shooting led to months of protests and significant division within the Decatur community. Perkins' brother, Nicholas Perkins, expressed the family's ongoing hope for justice and closure through the trial, which has faced several delays as Marquette appealed to the Supreme Court
