MASON, Mich. (WILX) - Crews battled a large crop fire in Mason Monday afternoon, and officials say it was caused by a mechanical issue.

According to the Mason Fire Department, farmers were driving a combine harvester out in a crop field off Columbia Road in Mason, just east of College Road, when the combine experienced a mechanical issue, causing a small fire.

That fire quickly spread to the surrounding crops, starting multiple smaller fires that then coalesced into a larger blaze.

Five nearby fire agencies assisted Mason in putting out the fire.

No one was hurt, and the only property damaged was crops.
