A eight-storey building to house 350 students will become Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s first venture into on-campus student residences.
Kwantlen, Surrey’s largest post-secondary institution, is set to have its own on-campus housing for students, with Indigenous and former youth-in-care students receiving first priority. The building, announced Monday afternoon, comes with a $144 million price tag.
Construction of the building, to be built at the Newton campus at 12666 72 Ave., is not expected to begin until early 2027, said Bowinn Ma, the minister of infrastructure.
Kwantlen is a public university established by the B.C. government in 1981 and offers more than 140 programs. With five campuses in Metro Vancouver — Richmond, Langley and three in Surrey — KPU has about 20,000 students
