CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - A southeast Missouri leader with the Latter Day Saints Church shared his reaction to the deadly church shooting and fire in Michigan.

You may remember the fire that destroyed the LDS building on Cape Rock Drive.

Church leaders told Heartland News it’s adversity that reminds them to rely on their teachings.

“We’re deeply saddened. Our hearts, our thoughts and prayers go out to those most good people in Michigan,” said Latter-day Saints Stake President Earl DeWaal.

He’s reacting to last weekend’s deadly shooting and fire at a Latter-Day Saints Church outside of Detroit.

DeWaal is a leader of the LDS who oversees the church in Cape Girardeau.

Four years ago, their building experienced a devastating fire caused by an arsonist.
