MOORHEAD — A Moorhead teenager is continuing his recovery and rehab at home after spending weeks in a Twin Cities burn unit following a horrible accident during a Becker County demolition derby.

Ayden Bernard, 19, was driving his derby car when it caught fire, causing a fireball on July 25 in Detroit Lakes.

The family is grateful for a quick EMS response and now hopes the tragedy might spark some safety changes at derbies.

The Bernard family is the first to admit this summer changed all of them. It was July 25 in Detroit Lakes and the county fair favorite — the demolition derby. Ayden had worked for months on his demolition car.
