A Monroe County man faces a first-degree murder charge after an eight-month shooting investigation.

Deputies were called to a home on Highway 72 East in Maryville around 6:55pm on January 30, where they found 29-year-old Dennis Jenkins Jr. with a gunshot wound to the head. He was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but later died.

Investigators with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, along with Madisonville Police, pursued the case for months before securing a warrant for 50-year-old Gerald Poff, who lived at the same residence as Jenkins.

Poff is now in custody and being booked into the Monroe County Jail.
