GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A juror in the trial of a veterinarian found guilty of stealing a homeless man’s dog called the incident “an unfortunate situation.”

“I can understand where (the veterinarian) was coming from and wanting to care for the dog, but that is someone’s best friend,” said the juror, who didn’t want to be identified by name. “I am a big dog lover, and I couldn’t imagine my dog being taken.”

Jurors deliberated for less than an hour Friday before finding Dr. Amanda Hergenreder guilty of misdemeanor larceny under $200. At sentencing, she will face up to 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.
