ARLINGTON, VA (WITN) - The POW/MIA branch of the Navy Casualty Office says that New Bern, North Carolina’s Edward Bowden, who died aboard the USS California during the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, will be buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on October 8.

Bowden was previously buried as an Unknown at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii before his identification.

Bowden enlisted in Raleigh in August of 1940 and achieved the rank of Fireman First Class.

He was one of 25 unknowns from the USS California buried in Hawaii. He is one of ten who have now been identified.

Unfortunately, neither the family nor the Navy has a photograph of Bowden.
