GRAND BLANC, Mich. — Less than 24 hours after tragedy struck a house of worship, hundreds came together Monday night to grieve, pray and sing.
Inside Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, voices rose in song as the community gathered for a memorial service just half a mile from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where a gunman opened fire Sunday , killing four people, injuring several others, before setting the building on fire.
“You just always assume that it’s never going to happen,” said Eric and Erica Gresock, who attended the service.
The Gresocks said they spent Sunday locked inside their own church, uncertain about what was unfolding nearby.
“We really didn’t know what was going on, and we locked all the church doors. We continued with our fellowship,” Erica recalled.
