MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison School Board has approved a stipend increase for its members.
Several people spoke against the move, with one former board member saying it does not align with the board's priorities of doing what is best for students and staff.
Supporters argued the increase would help ensure the board represents the community for years to come by making it more financially feasible for people to run.
"Low pay is a barrier of entry for marginalized folks to reach local office, and for that reason I am in support," board member Savion Castro said.
