BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Public safety and business concerns remain at the top of city councilors’ agenda on Monday night.

Burlington city councilors debated whether public nudity should be allowed in the Queen City.

“This is about the individual who was walking around naked this past summer only to end up at an elementary school playground,” said Council President Ben Traverse.

“Given the very small number of incidents, I’m not sure I can support this,” Councilor Melo Grant.

Some councilors believe the ordinance’s permitted exceptions don’t go far enough to protect UVM students’ naked bike ride tradition or align with Vermont’s more “eccentric” values.
